2784 Governor General’s Foot Guards opportunity

The Club has had a long and productive relationship with the Cadet movement spanning over 65 years and this year we have a unique opportunity to help our young men and women realize a once in a lifetime opportunity to participate in an exchange program with a cadet unit in Barbados.

This April, the 2784 Governor General’s Foot Guards (Ggfg) Army Cadet Corps has the unique opportunity to participate in an international cadet exchange with a cadet corps in Barbados. Earlier in January, several officers from Barbados were in Ottawa and gave a fabulous presentation to our cadets as to what they could be doing during their visit to the island. They have agreed that we could bring approximately 20 cadets plus 5 officer chaperons.

Our cadets would only be required to cover the travel (airfare) costs for those participating; the host corps will cover the other costs.

The 2784 Governor General’s Foot Guards (Ggfg) Army Cadet Corps, is dedicated to boys and girls aged 12 – 18. Throughout the year, the cadets volunteer in multiple charity and community events; most recently they have worked diligently with the legions for their poppy campaign; they participated in 5 separate Remembrance Day parades; assisted in the Kiwanis Club’s World Trivia Night. Their commitment to the community continues all year.

In order to send all the deserving cadets we must raise $25 000 to cover their expenses.

We are requesting donations from both individuals and corporations to help as many cadets participate in this unique experience. These donations must be passed through (and be payable to) the Kiwanis Club of Ottawa, #201 - 1283 Algoma Rd., Ottawa, Ontario, K1B 3W7, in order to receive a charitable tax receipt. Any donation in excess of $10.00 qualifies for a tax receipt. Your donation must specify it is for the 2784 Ggfg Cadet Corps. Donations can be made by cheques, Visa, or MasterCard.

Should you have any questions you can contact me at your convenience and I will be happy to answer them. My email is On behalf of the Cadets; I would like to thank you in advance for your contributions.
