Weekly Meeting - Ritz on the Canal - Round table luncheon (Thursday)

The weekly meeting for the Club was a round table luncheon, a chance to socialize.

Frank Hegyi, Past District Governor, Kiwanis International and President, Frank Hegyi Publications “Fundraising Opportunity for Cancer Research through Kiwanis International” Frank served on the Board of Kiwanis International (1990-91) when “Young Children Priority One” was introduced. He was a strong supporter of Kiwanis’ first Worldwide Service Project: “Iodine Deficiency Disorder” (introduced in 1994). Kiwanis International has recently issued a call for proposal for the next Worldwide Service Project (due October 1, 2009).

Past Governor Frank is proposing to respond to this call by submitting a project that will raise money to help Children with Cancer by marketing through Kiwanis International the book “Death Can Wait” co-authored by Frank, fellow Kiwanians Jackie Holzman and Max Keeping and 32 other cancer survivors.

Kiwanis Music Festival

Thank you to the following members and friends, who volunteered for 1 or more shifts at the Festival: Each shift was 3 hours and many were there for 3 shifts: Myrna Beattie, Wayne Beaudoin, Tom Burnie, Vince Calzonetti, Helene Crabb, Darren Fleming, Bob Garrow, Steve Georgopoulos, Ross Hadwen (with an additional 30 hours), Kathleen Holst, Derek Hyer, Mike Lafontaine, Buck Madden 6 shifts, Neil McDonald, Ken Miller, John Moor 9 shifts, Les Morin, Helena Mundell, Ken Nelson, George Old, Barb Perrin + 5 hours, Greg Plazek, Mike Scott, Robert Sirotek, Shirley Tomblin, Dave Trigger, Dave Urie, and Val Wilkins. It’s evident that the Kiwanis Music Festival needs the members of our club to assist during the 3 weeks of the Festival. Be sure to sign up to help next year as the Festival continues to grow!
