There was a full house of 240 attendees for the Red Shield Kickoff Luncheon with greetings from the Regional Government and the City of Ottawa. Major Cliff Hollman gave a brief summary of the Salvation Army Annual Report and spoke on the services they provide.
Our guest speaker, MP Elsie Wayne visiting from New Brunswick, spoke about how the needs in our community are being fulfilled by both Kiwanis and the Salvation Army and how well we work together. She also reminisced about helping a group of young people and starting a drop-in centre to keep our youth off the streets. With each of us doing our share we can make our community a better place to live. It doesn't feel so bad to be a little cold when you are doing it to help those in need.
