Weekly Meeting - Jackie Holzman, Presentation of her trip to Egypt

Thank you to Jackie Holzman and her husband John, for the very interesting visual presentation of their trip on The Nile. During their recent house exchange they had a wonderful time visiting the local markets full of young entrepreneurs selling textiles and spices. Donkeys are still used for transportation and haulage, and high security is evident, even on the boats. Cruising the Nile included an excellent guide who explained the history of the Nile and the people. Cairo is a big city of 21million people, and Jackie and John enjoyed visiting the many historical tombs and temples.

“ Kiwanis Club School Drive"

Back To School Once again, this year Staples is holding a school drive, and the supplies collected at Steve Tanner’s store at 403 Bank Street will all be going to our club, for distribution to children in need. This year we will also be getting supplies from about 4 or 5 other stores for distribution to the schools that our Club chooses. Stop by the store, buy some supplies, and drop them in the Kiwanis School Bus – you can’t leave the store without passing it!

12th Annual “One Can Make A Difference” Charity Golf Tournament results

"We had a wonderful warm day with 33 of 36 foursomes, and dinner guests, who joined us at the Ottawa Hunt & Golf Club, on Monday, August 17/09. Preliminary financial results indicate net proceeds of approximately $60,000! including $12,500 from the Silent Auction. Thank you to everyone who supported this fundraising event – the sponsors, the golfers, the donors of auction items, the Committee members, and the volunteers in the club who helped us on the day of the event. The funds raised will be used by our club to continue supporting and implementing programs for young children and youth, including the Kiwanis Read-a-thon, the Kiwanis Music Festival, the Air Cadets and Governor General’s Foot Guards Cadets, and Key Club programs in local high schools and Circle K programs in universities. We can’t say it enough…. We couldn’t do it without your help! Click on the link to see great photos taken by Jamie Johnson of the event.

Roster Changes: Georgopoulos, Steve New business affiliation: General Manager, Minto Hospitality Group Ottawa 185 Lyon Street North Ottawa, On K1R 7Y4 Phone 613-232-2200 x 4004, Fax 613-232-6962, Email: sgeorgopoulos@minto.com website: www.mintosuitehotel.com

Note from Steve: “I am delighted to announce that I have accepted the position of General Manager for Minto Hospitality Group, Ottawa. An opportunity to manage a CAA Four-Diamond all suite hotel like Minto Suite Hotel and to work for a company I have respected immensely for years doesn’t come up everyday. Therefore I was inspired to leave my post as Gm at Les Suites Hotel, Ottawa after 15 great years to take on this new responsibility. To paraphrase Lord Baden Powell, my philosophy has always been ‘leave it better than you found it’ and in retrospect I feel this was accomplished at Les Suites.”
