There was a full house of 245 attendees for the Red Shield Kickoff with greetings from the Federal and Regional Governments and the City of Ottawa. Major Cliff Hollman gave a brief summary of the Salvation Army Annual Report and spoke on the services they provide including he assistance they are giving to the refugees of Kosovo. Frank O’Dea, as guest speaker, received a standing ovation following his sharing of a personal history with alcoholism and his road to recovery after choosing the alternative. He also highlighted some growing pains with his career. Frank stressed that we are individually responsible for the positive changes in our life and as a service club with good values we can get a standard and make a difference in our society.
