The Medical Foundation Committee showed us the importance of their committee and made 3 cheque presentations for medical research and support.
Chair of the Committee, Paul Poggione, made a presentation of $5,000 to the Ottawa Heart Institute for the purchase of a defibrilator, $10,000 was presented to Dentistry at the Ottawa Hospital for the purchase of a specialized dental chair and equipment, and $5,000 was presented to Dr. Gail Graham of the Ottawa Hospital to assist with research for diseases like Hereditary Hemochromatosis (HH). HH or 'Iron Overload' is a genetic disorder which virtually rusts out vital organs and can be fatal. It is preventable through early diagnosis and treatment however it can be undetected in the blood stream even with standard blood tests. An Iron Profile blood test and additional genetic testing could help to prevent the ravages of this disease that affects 1 in 300 Canadians.
