On October 10, 2007, Ontario voters go to the polls to elect our next provincial government. Not so well known, is the fact that there will also be a referendum on the recommendation for a Mixed Member Proportional system (MMP). Mark Sutcliffe provided his views on the question, “Which electoral system should Ontario use to elect members to the provincial legislature?”. The last time voters had a chance to vote in a referendum was in 1924, when they were asked about extending prohibition for another 3 years. This time around, you are about to make a big decision, so make sure you understand the question.

Almost single-handedly, Harold Moore has Chaired the AKtion Club Committee and has helped the Club grow from one club to two with 200 members in total. They now hold their Tuesday night meeting EVERY week and this requires Kiwanis representation and assistance. We offer support, provide guidance and leadership to the group of Developmentally Disadvantaged Adults as a co-sponsor with OCAPDD (the Ottawa-Carleton Association for Persons with Developmental Disabilities) and Kiwanis Clubs from Ottawa-Vanier, Nepean, Ottawa West, and Sage. The Associated Canadian Travelers and OCAPDD also run one meeting. Therefore, the Ottawa Club only has to sponsor a meeting every seventh week. (Sponsoring means supplying 3 to 4 Volunteers and help to clean-up at approx 8 pm., and supply entertainment). IF YOU are interested in sharing your leadership skills with the members of our sponsored AKtion club, please contact Harold Moore at 613-248-1834. This would also allow Harold to share some of the responsibility of serving the meals and clean-up with other members in our club.
