Dave Smart, who was raised in Ottawa, has seen a lot of athletes. Some of these athletes showed promise, some didn't. He proudly remembers one student at St. Pat's who didn't know what to do, but Dave knew he would be a good basketball player, given proper direction. He had an attitude, he wasn't doing well in school, but the one thing the kid had going for him, was that he wanted to be the best. Dave 'took him under his wing' and helped him along. He became a great basketball player and he played in the Championships. He went to university, got the opportunities in life that he needed, and it changed his life. He now speaks to other kids about finishing school and going for your dream. Dave is honored that he was able to make an impact on the youth in our community.
President's thought for the week: " If all I'm remembered for is being a good basketball player, then I've done a bad job with the rest of my life" Isiah Thomas.
