At each Board of Director meeting, our Honorary Secretary, Valorie Wilkins, presents the correspondence that comes to the Kiwanis office.
Much of this correspondence comprises letters of thanks from individuals and agencies that have helped the Club. I felt it would be more appropriate to share some of these letters with you to show in a very tangible way how your efforts are building a better community:
Dear Kiwanians: It is with a deep sense of appreciation that I write to thank you for your excellent participation during the recent Christmas Kettle Appeal. You will be happy to learn that during the time the members of your Club assisted the Salvation Army, they raised $1,309. Thank you once again for all that you have done, and I look forward to working with you again in the New Year. Kind personal regards and may God bless. Yours sincerely, C.W. Hollman, Major Community Relations & Develop-ment Director, Salvation Army
Dear Kiwanis Club of Ottawa: Congratulations! Further to my phone call to and Richard Munro's presentation at the Board, I am delighted to confirm that the 1998 Philanthropy Awards jury members have selected your club from a list of strong nominees as recipient of the Outstanding Philanthropic Group Award. The awards are sponsored by the Ottawa Chapter of the National Society of Fundraising Executives to recognize the important role philanthropy plays in our com-munity. Sincerely, Susan Menzies, CFRE Member, Philanthropy Awards Committee

Dear President Ian: On behalf of the Southenders Kiwanis Club, I want to express my sincere thanks to you and your Club for participating in our Charter Night on October 30. It was an exciting and memorable event that celebrated the arrival of a new Club into the Kiwanis family. The Southenders are very grate-ful for your Club's contribution of $550 to our community services account. We are in the process of putting the final touches to our "Patrons' Program" and plan to present your Club with its Patron's Plaque in recognition of its contribution to our Club. Sincerely, Jim Rivers, President Southenders Kiwanis Club
These examples demonstrate the range of diversity of our contribution to the community. They reflect our support through hands-on effort, our commitment to Kiwanis International through the sponsorship of a new Club and the respect that we have earned in Ottawa-Carleton. You can all be proud of this great Club.
