The Kiwanis Club of Ottawa was proud to welcome guest speaker Nana Mouskouri, goodwill ambassador for UNICEF to a Kiwanis luncheon. Ms. Mouskouri has been a UNICEF good will ambassador since 1993, and her travels have taken her projects in Mexico, Chile, Viet Nam, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kenya, Bulgaria and Russia. Ms. Mouskouri spoke to Kiwanians and guests about her work with UNICEF. The luncheon was able to raise over $9,000 to be used for UNICEF and Kiwanis projects. In 1994, Kiwanis International took on a world wide service project with UNICEF to eliminate Iodine Deficiency Disorders (IDD) from the world. In 2001 the funding target was reached, and projects in 95 countries are underway. The Kiwanis Club of Ottawa has raised over $50,000 toward the world wide total. Proceeds from the luncheon will go to UNICEF and Kiwanis worldwide and local service projects.
