The Winterlude 24th Annual Enbridge Bed Race organized by the Kiwanis Club of Ottawa takes place on Saturday, February 14th, at Dows Lake. Registration begins at 11:00, judging the beds for best decorations begins at 12:30, with racing starting at 13:00.
David Daubney, President of the Kiwanis Club of Ottawa welcomed the sponsorship of Enbridge, “the proceeds of the race will benefit medical research in the Ottawa area through the Kiwanis Medical Foundation, and the Club is very pleased to have the support of Enbridge in this fund raising event.”
This year, up to 50 teams of 4 runners and one jockey will race down the Canal at Dows Lake pushing a modified bed a distance of 100m. Winners will be declared based on the fastest team, the best decorated bed, and the team which raises the most pledges.
Race rules, pledge forms and registration information is available at www.bedrace.ottawakiwanis.org, or by calling 613.233.1900. To help teams that may not have the time to prepare a bed, Kiwanis has a limited number of hospital beds that can be purchased (including free delivery to the race site).
The CD Creative, the Lone Star Texas Grill and OPL Rental Properties are supporting the event as Gold Level sponsors.
The proceeds from the event will be directed to the Kiwanis Club of Ottawa Medical Foundation to fund medical research in Ottawa. In 2003, the Foundation funded $40,000 over 6 different projects in the Ottawa area including support for CHEO, the Ottawa Heart Institute, the Salvation Army Grace Long Term facility and the Royal Ottawa Hospital.
