The first president of the modern-day Ottawa Senators and a former mayor, the long-time CEO of a local insurance company, and several innovative firms was honoured at the 2011 Ottawa Business Achievement Awards on Dec. 1.
For the first time this year, Ottawa Business Journal and the Ottawa Chamber of Commerce have formally partnered to present the 2011 Ottawa Business Achievement Awards at the Ottawa Convention Centre.
Jim Durrell is the inaugural recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award. The former mayor of Ottawa is also known for his sporting legacy, having been instrumental in bringing the Ottawa Senators to the region and serving as the franchise's first president. He also oversaw the expansion of the Ottawa International Airport and construction of the Ottawa Convention Centre.
"I am flattered and honoured to accept," Mr. Durrell stated. "This is a great honour. I care deeply about Ottawa and her future. It's been nice to, in some way, help shape that future."
The Ottawa Business Achievement Awards were created to celebrate Ottawa's history of innovative, ethical and profitable business.
Launched in 1993, the Ottawa Business Achievement Awards recognize innovation and entrepreneurial spirit in Ottawa.
