Version 4 of the Kiwanis Web Site Goes Live

The first version of the Kiwanis Club of Ottawa site went live in 1996, and through a couple of different content management systems, version 4 is now live.

The site has simplified navigation,  new sections on Members, Sponsors and Committees, as well as some improved integration with both Facebook and Twitter. There is still more content to add including lots of photos and videos, so let us know if there is something that you would like added.

President’s Rose - Jamie Johnson

President-Elect Peter Charbonneau highlighted the work of Jamie Johnson, owner of RKIL, who joined our Club in 1989, sponsored by former member Bob Kingham. Jamie served on our Board of Directors from 1998 to 2001.

He played an essential role in the Public Relations of our club for many years, and continues as Chair of Communications this year. Jamie used his very extensive knowledge in the computer field to bring the Club into the 21st Century, setting up and managing both our Club and TV Bingo websites. Jamie has been serving on our Strategic Planning Committee since 2001.

Thanks go to Jamie this year, as well, for stepping up and Chairing our Bed Race Committee. With his networking last year, we were able to secure Accora Village as a major sponsor of the event, along with MTS Allstream, a company that has sponsored this event for 5 years.

With the support of the participants, our sponsors and donors, and the Bed Race committee, we were able to raise $50,000 gross revenue from this year’s bed race on February 2nd with 40 bed racing teams, up from 29 last year.

Making a difference, one reader at a time

The Kiwanis Club of Ottawa would like to thank local Canadian Tire dealers for their continued support of Kiwanis Read-a-thon.

By donating bikes, helmets and other prizes to be awarded to Read-a-thon winners, Canadian Tire is encouraging children to read and making a difference in the community.

You can register your school for the Fall 2011 Read-a-thon at the Kiwanis Read-a-thon site.

To thank the Canadian Tire dealers, the Club ran an ad in the Ottawa Citizen today (page A5)

Luncheon Meeting - Jamie Johnson - How to Benefit from Our New Club Website

The Program Committee would like to invite all members to attend this meeting. Jamie Johnson will demonstrate “How to navigate through our new website” and explain its interactive features. This will be a hands-on meeting and we would ask at least 1/3 of the participants to bring their wireless-enabled laptop. We would also ask that members
