Accora Village Bed Race for Kiwanis

Put your team together for the annual Accora Village Bed Race for the Kiwanis Club of Ottawa on February 17, 2018. This will be the 38th running of the Bed Race, and the 15th organized by the Kiwanis Club of Ottawa.

Funds raised goes to support the Aktion Club (a program for developmentally delayed adults), other Kiwanis Club of Ottawa's projects and the Queensway Carleton Hospital Foundation. You can register your teams and pledges here.

The race will take place on Dows Lake, with

  • registration starting at 11:00, 
  • the Parade of Beds at 12:30,
  • racing between 13:00 and 14:30, 
  • and the after party starting at 15:00 at the Hometown Sports Grill.

This is a fun event for teams of all ages, so come on out, have fun and help Kiwanis support the community.

  • Team registration is $300 and the registration fee is waived if your team raises $1000 or more in pledges
  • Your team gets a minimum 2 races with a potential for up to 5
  • Great prizes and bragging rights
  • There are a limited prebuilt beds are available for purchase of $200

Kiwanis Luncheon - Jim Kyte - Canada C3

Jim Kyte,  Algonquin College Dean of the School of Hospitality & Tourism, and retired NHL player, will speak about his trip to Canada’s Northwest Passage as part of the Canada C3 Expedition.

Canada C3 is an initiative of the Students on Ice (SOI) Foundation. Since 2000, SOI has led educational expeditions to the Arctic and Antarctic. Internationally acclaimed as a leader in polar education and youth engagement, SOI expeditions and outreach initiatives educate youth about the importance of the Polar Regions, support their continued growth and inspire initiatives that contribute to global sustainability. The result is more than 2,500 alumni from 52 countries making positive and lasting impacts in communities around the world.

Seniors Christmas Luncheon

The 63rd Christmas Luncheon for Seniors was put on by the Club, this year at the Good Companions Centre with the help of the Centre, and chef Frank.. 125 Seniors were in attendance, along with 25 volunteers including Kiwanians, family and friends for a wonderful meal, along with entertainment from Noel Dimar.

Kiwanis Christmas Food Hampers

With funding from our Watch-it, Shred-it Day, the Club will prepare and delivered over 600 food hampers to over 185 families.

The project is made possible with the help of: Algoma Orchards, CapitalDrone.com, Costco Canada, Dole Food Canada, Erb Group of Companies, Hendry Warren LLP, Omega Advanced Technologies Inc., Ottawa Carleton District School Board, Ottawa-Carleton Mortgage Inc., Shred-it, The Boys Give Back, The Ray Otten Group.

The Club is still accepting donations on line to help next year with more hampers.

Kiwanis Christmas Party

Please come and join your fellow Kiwanians at our 2017 Christmas Cocktail Party on Friday Dec 1, 2017 - 6 pm start time. The event will be hosted by Thyme and Again – 1255 Wellington St W. in their private room on 2nd floor.

Space is limited so book early. Tickets only $65.00 each.

Includes chef prepared Hors D ’Oeuvres, interactive chef assisted food stations, as well as, various sweet desserts, coffee and tea. (Note - there will be a wide selection of Vegetarian/Gluten free choices. Please email Cathy James Zelney if you’d like more information or to see full menu.

Format will not be a sit-down meal, instead cocktail style with bistro tables as well as couches/chairs – plenty of room to mingle for fellowship and visiting while enjoying the food.

Open cash bar – including red & white wine, beer and liquor and non-alcoholic beverages as well. 

  • We will be having a gift giving raffle to support Connaught Public school hats and mitts program.
  • We will be having a Christmas gift exchange – please bring a gift of $15.00 -$20.00 if you would like to participate.
