38th Annual Accora Village Bed Race

On Saturday, February 17, 2018, the Accora Village Bed Race presented by Allstream will take place on Dows Lake between 12:00 and 14:00. The event begins with a parade of beds where judges select the best decorated bed, and is followed by heats of 5 beds racing a 50 metre course on the ice.

“The Bed Race is without a doubt, the most fun event that the Kiwanis Club of Ottawa runs each year” said Steve Moore, President of the Kiwanis Club of Ottawa. “The race is a great chance for the community to both support this great Kiwanis event, and have a lot of fun at the same time.”

This year the event is again being sponsored by Accora Village. Ferguslea Properties Limited Vice President Steve Ryan said, “We are looking forward to helping the Kiwanis Club of Ottawa in the many community service activities that it is involved in.”

Since 1917 the Kiwanis Club of Ottawa has been active in fund raising and community involvement as a not-for-profit organization. The largest Kiwanis Club in Canada, the Kiwanis Club of Ottawa is one of the most active and dynamic service clubs in the world. Each year the Kiwanis Club of Ottawa provides thousands of hours of community service and raises $500,000 for the local community. One of the 8,000 Clubs in Kiwanis International, the Club has met every Friday since 1917 at the Chateau Laurier Hotel in Ottawa. Projects carried on by Kiwanis in the Ottawa area include the Kiwanis Read-a-thon, the Kiwanis Music Festival, the “Precious Minds” educational video, the “Never Shake a Baby” educational video, and the “Reading is Fundamental” project running at Connaught Public School.

Team Building

Each year the WSP participates the Kiwanis Bed Race during Winterlude as part of their team building activities. They will enter teams from Ottawa, Toronto, Burlington and Sudbury, and they compete in the Halsall Cup as part of in-house challenges.

This event would not be possible without our sponsors, and we are always looking for additional sponsors.

The Accora Village Bed Race for Kiwanis was forced to change locations to the Laurier Steet Bridge, and the event came off with lots of smiles on the third weekend of Winterlude with $40,000 being raised for Kiwanis Club of Ottawa projects.
