President’s Report

What a busy time it has been since Christmas. I am very excited about the activity levels we have seen at our Friday meetings and at our Club events. Our members are working very hard and the results are beginning to show.

I am very pleased to announce a major milestone for our Tv Bingo project. On January 15, Rogers TV accepted our proposal to hold a weekly TV Bingo on Cable Channel 22 commencing this fall. Congratulations To Every Member Of The Committee! This is a significant achievement and is the result of a great deal of work done by the members of this committee. Rogers has recently delivered a draft agreement that will be presented to the Board of Directors for approval. Please stay up to date on this project because we will soon be seeking the approval of the membership for the initial budget. This has the potential to become a very large source of fund raising for our Club. The committee has done a great job but now every member of the Club will need to get involved to get this project from the planning stage to the TV screens.

As all of you will know our Kiwanis Bedzz Race was held 2 weeks ago on Dow’s Lake. With 29 teams, our Title Sponsor “Bedzz”, our presenting sponsor “Allstream”, our Gold sponsors and the many heat sponsors, our dedicated committee and the many volunteers that worked so hard on race day we raised almost $35,000 to support our sponsored youth and other service projects. The event received strong media coverage this year including a mention on the CJOH news the night before the race and a front-page picture in the Ottawa Citizen after the race. Wonderful exposure for the Race and for our Club.

On January 26 many of us enjoyed the continuation of the Ottawa Senators winning streak at our Partners in Caring Game. Thanks to the efforts of Tom Spence and his son Jeff, over $1,000 was raised. Thank you Tom and Jeff.

The efforts to improve communications within the Club are beginning to bear fruit. Jamie Johnson was able to switch us over to our new web site just before the New Year. Please visit the new site by click here /, which you will note is the same address. We also had a great discussion of the results of the Members’ Survey and related issues at our Town Hall meeting on January 14, with over 40 members in attendance and we have had very good attendance at our Friday luncheons.

If you are not a regular attendee at a committee please consider coming out to a meeting this month or next month. Many of our committees could use some additional help. Consider joining one of our two remaining fundraising committees, Bon Appétit or the Golf Tournament. Or perhaps one of our sponsored youth committees would be more interesting to you. I think that you will find that the more you put into this Club, the more you will enjoy it.
