Weekly Meeting - Semi Annual Business Meeting - No speaker, no guests

July 13th Luncheon

Our Semi-Annual Business Meeting was kicked off with President Neil’s brief overview of the Club's finances, which are in line with our proposed budgets, and the fundraisers to date are almost right on target. Neil was proud to announce that, thanks to the hard work of Steve Georgopoulos and his small committee, the Nana Mouskouri luncheon raised $8,200.00 of which 50% was contributed to UNICEF.

A report on the Kiwanis International Convention held in San Antonio, Texas, was presented by President Neil and President-Designate Bill, and the message from Kiwanis International to all Kiwanians is clear - we must embrace change and use it to increase growth by adhering to the ABC’s -Attitude / Behaviour / Commitment . The international goal is to reach 1 million in Kiwanis membership by 2015 (100 years since Kiwanis was founded).

Thank you to all the members who shared their positive messages with us and reminded us that it all starts with a dream and an idea – Share your idea with the club and remember to invite members to join you for lunch.

LUNCHEON FEE INCREASE

Effective September 1, 2007, the Fairmont Chateau Laurier will be increasing luncheon fees by $2.00 (to $30.20 all inclusive), therefore there will be an increase to our Active members of $2.00 (to a total of $23.00) Active members will be billed quarterly at a rate of $23.00 (currently $21) and Senior/Honorary & Guests will pay $30.00 at the door effective September 1, 2007.

Sympathy of the Club goes out to the family and friends of Mr. Tom Assaly

Tom passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, July 9, 2007, in his 85th year. Tom was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Ottawa since 1957 and would have been recognized as a 50-year member of our Legion of Honour this fall. He was very proud of his association with Kiwanis and his most recent accomplishment was bringing the AKtion Club idea to our Club, after he discovered the AKtion Clubs in Florida. As you saw at a recent luncheon, the two AKtion Clubs are growing and a 3rd Club will be formed soon. Services were held on Friday, July 13, 2007. Our thoughts go out to Tom’s wife, Gloria, and their family and friends, at this time.

Congratulations to Past President Ian Hendry, who was the recipient of the 2006 Volunteer of the Year Award from the Ottawa Chamber of Commerce which celebrates its 150th Anniversary this year.

Summer Dress is here! Now that summer is upon us, Casual Business Dress has returned, which means gentlemen must wear a jacket to our luncheons, however, a tie is not required. The ladies of the club must also adhere to Casual Business Dress, and dress appropriately. A jacket and tie is required if you are seated at the head table.

10th Annual “Children - Priority One” Charity Golf Tournament - 2007-08-20 Monday, August 20, 2007 - 11:00am Registration, 11:00-12:30pm Lunch, 1:00pm Shotgun The Kiwanis Club of Ottawa Inc. is pleased to present its 10th Annual “Children - Priority One” Charity Golf Tournament. All of the net proceeds will be deposited into the Foundation account of the Kiwanis Club of Ottawa. Then, periodically, these funds will be distributed to support various deserving initiatives within the community - principally those that align themselves with our primary Kiwanis mission “Children – Priority One”. Location: Ottawa Hunt and Golf Club, One Hunt Club Road, Ottawa Participants: Business leaders from the greater Ottawa community. Activity: Registration, lunch on the patio, 18-holes of golf (shotgun start), four Par 3’s with $50,000 hole-in-one prizes and a $1,000,000 “shoot-out” complete with cocktail party, dinner, awards, prizes, and silent auction. WANTED – USED BIKES

The Bedzzz Race Committee needs your help!! If you come across an old bike, grab it! We need bike parts, specifically 24/28 inch wheels and forks. The Bedzzz Race Committee, with the help of the Hands-On Committee, will be building 15 Race Beds for the February 9th, 2008, Bedzzz Race. These new racing beds will be sold to new teams who want to participate but do not have the time or means to build their own bed. We will be building these Race Beds during the summer and fall so keep your eye out for USED BIKES – New teams mean more pledges and higher revenues for the club.
