Weekly Meeting - Roch Carrierre National Librarian - The Magic of Books

National Librarian, Roch Carrier, who was a very pleasant speaker, never read a book for enjoyment until he was 9 years old. He was then given an encyclopedia set and his eyes were opened to the magical world of reading.

He commended Kiwanis for their projects, which are encouraging young children to read, reiterating that reading is essential for providing good self esteem. Whether it be with a book, or with the new technology of the internet, reading is necessary for lifelong learning, and to improve literacy.

Thought for the week: A mind that has been stretched will never return to its original dimension.
