Thank you to George Perrin and Bob Kingham, both Trustees of the Kiwanis Medical Foundation, who gave a history of the Foundation since its inception in 1980. George indicated that, with Dr. Lorne MacLachlan's initial contribution based on his 1 to 4 fundraising challenge, $100,000 was invested and has a market value today of over $700,000.
The Foundation's mandate is for "the advancement of medical treatment and research, and assistance to other organizations with similar objects" and they continue to seek requests from organizations. On behalf of the committee, George presented a $5,000 cheque to the CHEO Research Institute for Hereditary Hemochromatosis, and Bob Kingham, who is also a Trustee on the Committee, made a presentation of $9,000 to the University of Ottawa Eye Institute for the research and management of glaucoma.
Steve Georgopoulos spoke on the history of the Kiwanis Bed Race which was reintroduced at this year's Winterlude, thanking everyone who participated, and encouraged participation for next year.
Thought for the week: You don't have to be sick to get better.
