What a wonderful meeting, and it was great to have so many long-term members in attendance! Thank you to Derek Finley, Distinguished President from 2004-05, for his heartfelt presentation as we recognized the 17 Legion of Honour members celebrating their quinquennial Anniversary in 2008. Welcome to our new 25-year inductees - Ken Birch, Les Morin, Peter Patafie, and Botho von Hampeln. Plus, all Legion of Honour Members were recognized for a total of 1,590 years of service to Kiwanis and to their community!! As President Bill stated, “each of you has contributed greatly to the success of the Kiwanis Club of Ottawa, as well as to Kiwanis International. Without you we would be just another service club. Your dedication is the backbone of our club, and it is this strength that has held our club together for 90 years!!” Thank you to Past President Barry Weatherdon for his assistance with the presentation, and thank you to Mark Max and Maxad, who provided the gift-boxed pen and pencil sets.
President Bill’s Thought for the Week - We are not put on this earth for ourselves, but are placed here for each other. If you are always there for others, then in time of need, someone will be there for you.
Congratulations to Rick Barrigar, who won the raffle of a hand-turned bowl, donated by Botho von Hampeln; to Myrna Beattie, who won the raffle of a beautiful, framed, pressed flower arrangement, donated by Con Stoltz; and to Shirley Tomblin, who won the raffle of a gift certificate for lunch at the Sheraton Ottawa Hotel, donated by The Sheraton Ottawa.
