Weekly Meeting - Jocelyn Lamont: Candlelighters Executive Director and Dr. Pierre Turgeon: Wings of Phoniex

Pierre Turgeon thanked our club for the support we have shown to the Wings of Phoenix which started in 1984, stressing how our mandates are similar - to care for others and to do what we can to make a difference.

Jocelyn Lamont spoke on the Candlelighters which provides support to families with children diagnosed with cancer. There are 400 families a year who have special needs and Candlelighters is there to offer them access to support groups, financial counselling, birthday greetings, and more. Jocelyn thanked our club for participating in their pager program, and for providing 50 pagers and air time to 103 families.

Three Saint Paul University students were presented with a $1,000 bursary by Bill Cowie of the Spiritual Aims & International Affairs Committee. These funds assist with their continuing theology studies.

President David's thought for the week: Some special thoughts by Governor George Bush Jr. “One word sums up the responsibility of the Governor, and that one word is 'to be prepared’. “It isn't pollution that is harming the environment. It's the impurities in our air and water that are doing it”. “We’re going to have the best educated American people in the world"
