Bob Davis stressed that airplanes in the north are a necessity not a luxury. He gave an excellent presentation on the flourishing economy in the north explaining firstly that First Air has 262,000 passengers per year. The NWT and Nunavut have a poplulation of 40,000 people with 65% under 25. The current economy is flourishing due to 3 areas with massive benefits to the north: Diamonds, discovered in 1990, now offer 4% of the world production and 6% of the value; Oil and Gas exploration; and Tourism. Approximately 12,000 tourists per year go to see the Northern Lights which are visible 243 days a year. Thank you to Bob for donating a free trip to the north for our Golf Tournament Silent Auction.
