The Kiwanis Club of Ottawa celebrates seniors

Ottawa

On Tuesday, August 17, 1999, The Kiwanis Club of Ottawa is hosting its annual afternoon tea for local seniors. The event will take place from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. in the Ballroom of the Chateau Laurier Hotel. Over 500 seniors will be joined by local celebrities and Kiwanis Club of Ottawa members in an afternoon of fun and entertainment by the famed Grey Jazz Band.

This annual event is open to all seniors in the Ottawa area and is free of charge. Invitations are sent to residents of all senior citizen facilities in the city, many of whom may not have other opportunities to experience an afternoon tea at one of Ottawa’s landmarks. “The project began some five years ago to celebrate the contribution of seniors to our community” said Ian Hendry, President of the Kiwanis Club of Ottawa.

“The event has grown in popularity and the momentum keeps building. This is our best year ever” stated Harry Brown, a member of the Seniors Committee and an organizer of the event.

The Kiwanis Club of Ottawa is celebrating 82 years of active fundraising and community involvement as a non-profit organization. The largest Kiwanis Club in Canada, and with over $600,000 returned to the local community each year, the Kiwanis Club of Ottawa is one of the most active and dynamic service clubs in the world. One of the 8 000 Clubs in Kiwanis International, the Club has met every Friday since 1917 at the Chateau Laurier Hotel in Ottawa.
