Run with the Renegades

On Friday, 2002-01-25, at 12:30 in the Chateau Laurier Ballroom, the Kiwanis Club of Ottawa will be hosting a special 'Ride with the Renegades' event. The guest speakers at the weekly luncheon of the Kiwanis Club of Ottawa will include Michael Lysko (Commissioner of the Canadian Football League[http://www.cfl.ca/]), Brad Watters (owner of the Renegades[http://www.ottawarenegades.net/]) and Russ Jackson (Hall of Fame player from the Ottawa Rough Riders).

Also at the meeting will be Joe Paopao, the Head Coach of the team, and Kelly Wiltshire, one of the first players drafted by the team. Support for the team will be shown by former Riders including Ron Stewart, Mark Kosmos, Whit Tucker, Ken Lehman, Wayne Tosh, Merv Collins, Marv Bevan, Jim Cain, Jim Conroy, Joe Poirier, Stephan Jones, P.C. Thompson, Dave Thelen, Soupy Campbell, Jeff Avery and Ralph Sinke.

The Kiwanis Club of Ottawa has close ties to the community, with 4 members of the Club (Moe Racine, Tom Deacon, Bill Siekierski and Tom Pullen) being former CFLers. The luncheon is already sold out, and no tickets will be available at the door for the general public.

The Kiwanis Club of Ottawa is celebrating 85 years of active fund raising and community involvement as a not-for-profit organization. The largest Kiwanis Club in Canada, the Kiwanis Club of Ottawa is one of the most active and dynamic service clubs in the world. Each year the Kiwanis Club of Ottawa provides thousands of hours of community service and raises $500,000 for the local community. One of the 8,400 Clubs in Kiwanis International, the Club has met every Friday since 1917 at the Chateau Laurier Hotel in Ottawa. Projects carried on by Kiwanis in the Ottawa area include the Kiwanis Duck Race for Tiny Hearts, the "Precious Minds" educational video, the "Never Shake a Baby" educational video, and the "Reading is Fundamental" project running at Connaught Public School.
