President’s Rose – One Can Make A Difference – Bill Gosewitz

Immediate Past President Bill Gosewitz was introduced to our club just 10 years ago, by Les Morin and Lt. Governor Sam. He proved to be an ideal member and an excellent contribution to our membership.

He was elected to the Board in 2003-04, serving as President in 2007-08 and knowing the job ahead of him, he had some ideas ….. First he started giving away cookies – Oreos – just because they are his favorite. A simple idea and one that helped us share some fun and laughter.

Then he shared his personal motto with us and it was the Theme of his year - “Pay It Forward”. As he stated when he was our guest speaker two years ago, “Think of a way that you can help another person, or two, or three.” He is always thinking.…..

Then he gave us a challenge to raise a total of $90,000 with the Bedzzz Race fundraiser or he would shave his head. With the help of Dr. Kanta Marwah, the Kiwanis Medical Foundation and the members of this club, we met his challenge… and he shaved his head, like promised. The $50,000 raised was matched by Carleton University for $100,000 to establish the Kiwanis Club of Ottawa Medical Foundation and Dr. Kanta Marwah Scholarship in Medical Physics, at Carleton. One of our club legacies – one of Bill’s ideas…

Bill’s message is the reason we are working in Kiwanis. Like many past presidents of our club, he is still engaged, and has proven to us that his commitment continues even after his presidency. As President, he had an active year, and worked with a strong Board of Directors who made some difficult decisions, all made with the health of the Club in mind. He worked hard to have a successful year with a positive surplus; he concentrated on strengthening our membership and, on restoring our community involvement. Past President Bill, we thank you for your commitment last year, for providing us with some entertainment and challenges, and for Making A Difference in our community!!
