Partners In Caring - What is it exactly?

The Partners in Caring project is a fund raising initiative now in its third year. It was started by Past President Tom Pullen who arranged a partnership with the Ottawa Senators Hockey Club such that for one game we would have the opportunity to sell packages of tickets at a discounted rate.

There are two components of the fund raising: a) Ticket sales for which we realise $ 14 per ticket and b) the proceeds from two 50/50 Draws. The tickets are sold in packages of 10 and our prime market is corporate sales whereby organizations can buy them for their clients and employees. There are 9 Kiwanians who sell these packages—— this is done to have a control of the seating allocations and ticket distribution. Our main ticket seller is Tom Spence who this year has committed to selling 300 and will have sold in excess of 1000 since the Partners in Caring initiative began. Any Kiwanian who wants to purchase tickets of any quantity should contact Tom. The 50/50 Draw is managed by Shirley Tomblin who recruits 25 ticket sellers for each game. If you are interested in assisting with the sales of 50/50 tickets during two different games, please conact Shirley.

This year the funds raised from the ticket sales will go to Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Trust– a support group that helps families with children receiving treatment for cancer. This organization was chosen by our Committee and the Senators as a worthwhile cause that supports both the Young Children - Priority One goal as well as the Senator's wishes.

The proceeds for the 50/50 Draw ( approximately $10,000) will assist in the Kiwanis Club of Ottawa's contribution to the Worldwide Service Project to Eliminate Iodine Deficiency Disorders (IDD). (Note: our Club has committed to a donation of $12,500 which will be matched by a CIDA grant for a total contribution of $25,000).

This years game will be held on February 22/01 against the Florida Panthers. To date we have approximately 900 tickets sold against our goal of 1,000 and we hope our shortfall can be met at our Luncheon Kickoff on Friday, January 19/01.

This year's speaker will be Roger Neilson, Assistant Coach of the Ottawa Senators who will be speaking both about hockey and his experience with cancer. This is sure to be a well-attended luncheon so why not bring a guest.
