Barb has grown up with Kiwanis since her dad, George, has been an involved member of our club for 45 years. She has been on our Board of Directors for the past 2 years and was re-elected to serve as a Director again for the new Kiwanis year starting October 1. Barb has participated on many committees - Tv Auction, Benefit Dinner, Ways and Means and Duck Race. She assisted with the start-up of our former Charitable Gift Planning Committee, now called the Legacy Fund Committee, which is a way for members to contribute to our Club through private donations. She contributes to the Bed Race Committee, and was happy to bring along her teenage son to assist with the bed building, and, on the day of the Bed Race.
Since 1995-96 she has worked closely with the Kiwanis Music Festival Committee and has been our liaison with the Music Festival’s Board of Directors for more than 10 years, reporting regularly to our Board. Each year our Club provides 3 scholarships for music students, and our Music Festival committee has also increased our support to include funding of $5,000 for operations. Kiwanis encourages young people to excel in their musical talent and the late Past President Sol Max would certainly agree with our contribution and support. There are up to 10,000 children participating in the Festival now, and this is a major undertaking for the Kiwanis Music Festival organizers, who are mostly volunteers. Barb is working very closely with the organizers now, as they are preparing for some administrative changes in the next few years. They made a recent presentation to our Board of Directors, explaining the depth of the work required, and Kiwanis may be looking at a more involved participation from every Kiwanis Club.
Barb, thank you for your commitment and leadership to our youth, you set an example to us all, and You Make A Difference!
