Kiwanis Remebrance Day Luncheon - MCpl Michael Trauner

Fairmont Chateau Laurier, 12:00 - 1:45 p.m.

Canadian Master Corporal Mike Trauner, recipient of the Medal of Military Valour-  "Soldier On"

MCpl Trauner was serving in Afghanistan in September 2008 when a rocket-propelled grenade struck his vehicle, leaving the soldier’s dismounted colleagues vulnerable to enemy fire. Acting quickly, MCpl Trauner engaged the attackers in a fire fight to protect his fellow soldiers, saving lives and earning for himself the MMV.

Two months later, while on foot patrol, MCpl Trauner received the full brunt of an improvised explosive device, in the process losing both legs. The soldier’s rehabilitation has seen him overcome seemingly overwhelming odds, and build a new life that involves coaching and counselling ill and injured veterans.
