Kiwanis Music Festival

WOW! Another outstanding year for the Festival!

This year was better than ever and it has now come to an end after four full weeks at eleven different locations across the city. I would like to extend a special thanks to Ross Hadwen and Shirley Tomblin and to everyone who volunteered to assist with the Festival. Your time is valuable and I appreciate you taking the time out of your busy schedules.

With the help of Kiwanis, the Festival provides an opportunity for local music student to per-form for the general public and be adjudicated by top quality professionals.

Here are some of the highlights of this year's Festival: Choir participation was bursting at the seams with over 80 entries, an increase of 50 from last year. Local schools entered over 700 primary children for choir. Christ Church welcomed over 7000 people in a two-week period for show music and choir.

The St. Laurent Complex was a new venue this year which worked extremely well allowing sessions in different categories to run concurrently. The "Composition" category increased to a full day and has created interest from CBC television regarding a special prize for the winner of this category.

Senior Vocal category increased to 5 days from 1 day last year. Entries in all categories have increased. In-creased participation means increased interest and shows the true quality and professionalism of the Festival. The adjudicators are very pleased with the way the Festival is run.

Special mention was given to "Les Suites Hotel" for making their stay a home away from home while in Ottawa. Thank you to Steve Georgopoulos for making the arrangements.

Our Club will be sponsoring over 20 individuals to participate at the Provincials in June 2000. Winners here will go on to participate at the National level.
