Kiwanis Medical Foundation luncheon Dr. Andrew Falconer, QCH

Dr. Andrew Falconer, Chief of Medical Staff at the Queensway-Carleton Hospital spoke about the services provided by Qch to West Ottawa and the Ottawa Valley. With the busiest Emergency Room in the Region, it is also a Teaching Hospital – for nursing, medical students and residents. Cornerstone Programs include Emergency Medicine/ Family Medicine /Intensive Care /Geriatrics / Medicine / Rehabilitation Medicine / Obstetrics & Gynaecology / and Mental Health. Highlights this past year include 2,700 Births ~7 new lives per day! Emergency visits of 72,000 with about 10,000 of these pediatric. They conducted 150,000 Cardiopulmonary exams / 200,000 Diagnostic Images, 14,000 Surgeries including 1200 Hips and Knees, 750 cancer surgeries, specializing in breast and colorectal surgeries.

They are proud to live up to their motto “Respect – People First, Caring Always”. With an increased lack of Nursing Home placements they helped obtain interim long term care licenses, and developed a pilot program for partnership planning with other organizations such as The Ottawa Hospital, Valley Stream Manor and Prince of Wales Manor to name a few. They are building for the future and have installed a new Ct scanner, Nuclear Medicine and Digital Mammography. The Irving Greenberg Family Cancer Centre is complete and due to accept patients in April. They have a new Surgical Centre with 10 Operating Rooms, the Diagnostic Centre has expanded, updated Ambulatory Care Centre for Outpatient Clinics, new satellite Dialysis Clinic, new and expanded Cardiopulmonary Clinics, and a New Wing housing the Diagnostic Centre, with plenty of new equipment.
