Kiwanis Luncheon, March 21, 2014,  12:00 – 1:45 p.m. Fairmont Chateau Laurier, Laurier Room

Reverend Ken MacLaren, Executive Director,  Ottawa Innercity Ministries

“Passion 4 Youth”   In downtown Ottawa today, there are over 500 youth who are homeless, marginally housed or at risk of losing their housing.  Hear Ken MacLaren tell the story of a dynamic program for street-engaged youth that has surpassed all expectations.   The Passion 4 Youth program brings youth from the streets into a safe and warm environment where they create art, build community and work one-on-one with adult volunteer mentors to work towards and realize their goals. Based on a strengths-based model (as opposed to a model based on deficiencies), this program is reaching the most vulnerable of our city - youth between 16 and 22 years who, for the most part are fleeing domestic violence in the home. Find out how Ken and the Ottawa Innercity Ministries’ Team find and unlock strengths within these youth, and mobilize these assets to effect life changes.
