Kiwanis Luncheon - Feb 15, 2013 - H'Art of Ottawa - Fairmont

Lin Roswell, Executive Director

Lin Rowsell, Executive Director of H’Art of Ottawa was our speaker. She first spoke to us ten years ago. Today she updated us on the progress of H”Art in assisting adults with developmental disabilities to develop their literary and artist skills.

Over the last ten years, H’Art has grown from working with 7 artists to facilitating the artistic development of approximately 50 artists and could assist another 50 if funding were available.

The adults served by H’ Art are so easily marginalized, but H’Art gives them both the opportunity to develop their artisitic and literary skills and opportunities to display and be recognized for their skills. To date, H’Art has generated 43 art shows and generated $100,000.00 from the sale of art.

A big part of the financing of H’Art is the sale of Christmas Cards. This program has been supported by John Callan, Dawn Morewood and Bob Garrow, three of our Kiwanis Club members H’Art has a dream, to someday have a store front location from which to better promote the wonderful art produced by its artists.

Thanks To Mac’s Convenience Stores and Special Presentation to CHEO Foundation

Where would our TV Bingo operated with our Community Partner Rogers TV, be without the support of Mac’s Convenience Stores and the key role that Mac’s plays in selling our TV Bingo tickets to Ottawa? In recognition of the role that Mac’s plays in our success Barb Perrin Co-Chair of our Direct Assistance Committee presented a cheque for $15,000 to the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) Foundation to support research into Rett Syndrome.

We also welcomed and recognized Mac’s store managers who are the top sellers of bingo tickets.
