Kiwanis Club of Ottawa Announces Emergency Care Package for Infants

In celebration of 80 years of community service and on the occasion of a visit to Ottawa by Walter Sellers, President of Kiwanis International, the Kiwanis Club of Ottawa will announce a new Kiwanis-sponsored project at a press conference December 12, 1997 at 10:30 AM in the Laurier Room, Chateau Laurier Hotel.

Emergency Infant Care Package

The Champions for Children Foundation will announce the distribution of an emergency care package of infant “basic needs” products for use by front-line social workers to meet the needs of a baby at risk. In the last 10 months, the Children’s Aid Society of Ottawa-Carleton has seen an increase of 48% in the number of investigations into child abuse and neglect, and a 46% increase in the actual number of children taken into the care of the Society. Mel Gill, Executive Director of the CAS and member of the Executive Committee of the Champions for Children Board of Directors, will be on hand to explain the background to this initiative.
