When they were planning to build the Canadian War Museum at Lebreton Flats, it was estimated to cost $105 million. The Federal Government funded $83.75 million and the Museum of Civilization contributed $7 million.  The balance had to be raised through private donations.

The Kiwanis Club of Ottawa accepted the challenge of helping and pledged $50,000 with $10,000 coming from Club funds and a 'Passing the Torch' committee was established to raise the other $40,000.

With a great team of Kiwanians, we contacted all other Kiwanis Clubs, our families, friends, and business associates, and we were able to contribute $114,000.00!

The museum ensures that Canadians will remember the many contributions of Canada’s military, and it educates future generations on this integral part of Canadian history. The Museum now includes two 'Kiwanis' classrooms for educating future generations.
