Your Kiwanis Club is now revving up for big time involvement in the Canadian Special Olympics 2000 Winter Games that are now only 3 months away!
From January 25 to 30, 2000, our Club will follow through with our commitment to provide volunteers for the Floor Hockey competition to be held at the Ottawa Civic Centre, Salon A, B and C. We have been assigned to do such tasks as time keeping, score keeping, set up/takedown of boards and announcing.
The Winter Games will be integrated into the Ottawa 2000 Millennium celebra-tions and will be the first major multi-sport event of the new millennium. Invitation to become involved in the Canadian Special Olympics 2000 Winter Games You will not want to miss getting involved in this event! We guarantee that you will go home with wonderful memories that will last a lifetime. Ask members of your family, or co-workers if they want to get involved in this very special event.
Last winter, our Hands On Committee volunteered at the Regional Games. All the Kiwanis volunteers were very impressed with the athletes as they are so pure hearted and give 110% effort. You control the amount of time you want to donate. However, whether you give one hour or several days, the organizers require that a computer police check be done since the participants are vulnerable. We need you to complete 2 forms and provide a photocopy of your driver's licence and another document such as a passport or birth certificate. It takes up to 6 weeks to process an application so the time to do this paperwork is now. Once the form is completed, mail it to the Canadian Special Olympics 2000 Winter Games Office, Lansdowne Park, 1015 Bank Street, Ottawa, On-tario, K1S 3W7. Or if you prefer, give it to me or Rita at the next Kiwanis luncheon. If you need a copy of the application or have any questions please call me at 860-3962.
Many thanks Bill Harsh, WMC Water Management
