The Inaugural Awarding of the Kiwanis Club of Ottawa Medical Foundation and Dr. Kanta Marwah Scholarship in Medical Physics was awarded on Thursday, September 17/09 at Carleton University. Dr. Paul Johns, Professor in Physics made the presentation to Claire Foottit, doctoral candidate in medical physics, the first recipient of the Award. Dr. Kanta Marwah, Wayne French, Chair of the Kiwanis Medical Foundation, and Past President Bill Gosewitz, were on hand to speak about Kiwanis and to assist with the presentation. The endowment fund totals $100,380 and up to $10,000 will be awarded annually to an outstanding student based upon the recommendation of Carleton’s Scholarship Committee.
Claire Foottit (second from right) said a few words, “ thank you for your most generous award. As a PhD student in the later years of my degree, I have often felt the financial burden of my lengthy schooling … your thoughtful contribution will relieve much of that worry and allow me to focus on my research.
