Hands-On Service for Camp Smitty

Thank you to our Kiwanis Volunteers, and their family and friends, who volunteered on September 22nd, 23rd, and 24th.

"Hi everyone, Camp Smitty has undergone a major upgrade over the past two weekends thanks to the Kiwanis Club of Ottawa, the Capital City Chorus (CCC) and Amsted Construction. We estimate the total work to be somewhere around $50,000 in labour and materials (all donated by local companies - including our great friend Wayne Bent at RONA). The dining hall is now insulated and paneled (CCC), 2 sheds are gone and ready for a new one soon to come (Amsted), and the Kiwanis gang took down and stacked 9 big trees, painted two cabins, roofed the point cabin, cleared 30 truck loads of tree debris, scrubbed the kitchen spotless and cleaned up the fire pit. Some of this great work was caught by a CJOH camera crew on Friday and showcased on the 6 o'clock news that night. Pretty fantastic I would have to say. Great work from Tom Patrick to work with each group and ensure that they were well taken care of ".

Scott Bradford, Ottawa Boys and Girls Club, Interim Executive Director. " Working with these groups from planning through fruition has been very energizing and motivating ... they over-deliver on the plans and deserve a big dose of our appreciation for sure Scott ... too many to list but the key leaders have been: - Tom Burns and Bruce Sandor (Capital City Chorus) - Fred and Steve Barkhouse (Amstead and Restore-all) - Doug Wilson and Lee Storm (Kiwanis Club of Ottawa)

The most exciting news is that all groups seem to be committed for the next number of years also! Tom Patrick", Ottawa Boys and Girls Club, Camp Director Photos from the weekend taken by Peter Nadeau can be found here.
